KWA ATP-Adaptive Training Pistol

Imagine there is a firearm company with significant market share in the global law enforcement and military fields. Their product is very popular, and oft copied. On one hand, all of this imitation is very flattering, but on the other it's unrealized profits. Time to call the lawyers and demand a cut of the profits!

KWA seems to have latched on to an idea. Their ATP has been designed to fit into the holsters and work with the accessories designed to fit their real steel idol, but is significantly different enough to not require licensing or royalties. Pretty clever.

I've tried to put my ATP into every holster I can get my hands on, which is actually a pretty significant number of different holsters from companies like Uncle Mikes, Safariland and BlackHawk. I've had success in nylon duty rigs and Kydex sherpa styles. While it replicates the contact points of a 9mm pistol, it also fits (with a little wiggle rom) in my .45 sized Xyphos rig.

The function of the ATP is what you'd expect from KWA. It chrono's in the low 300's, and the N2 gas system performs as advertised. It's polymer body and metal rail have minimal wobble. It uses legacy KWA G17 style magazines. Somehow this tidbit of info is hard to come by...KWA doesn't seem to want you to know. The new ATP magazines have a thicker floorplate that needs to be moved in order to load gas unless your can has a long nozzle.

One problem I've encountered is the magazine follower. It has a nice feature that it will lock down for loading, but when a full mag is inserted in the pistol it's possible for the follower to catch at the bottom, resulting in a failure to feed malfunction. Frustrating, and likely fatal if it happens in game. My advice is to load the mag at least -1, and make sure you aren't rocking the magazine forward when you insert it into the magwell.

Unbranded Hi-Capa 7.1 w/Meat Tenderizer Front End

This is a big gun, and definitely not for everyone. The trigger pull is stiff, and it has respectable kick. It's fun to shoot, has decent gas efficiency and pretty good power. It's an intimidating gun for special occasions.

G-17 (Glock Clone)

I think it's made by KSC. It's serviceable and an accurate reproduction of the Glock it's patterned after. It was an easy gun to recommend, when they could be had, right up to the release of the ATP. The ATP feels better in my hand than the Glock does, and the NS2 system is better. If I bring a friend to a pistol fight, he gets to use this one.

Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa 5.1 w/Extended Slide

Sometimes I just want a pistol that's a bit bigger that a Glock. This one fits that bill. It's perfect for my larger hands, has capacity to outmatch the "G's", and respectable range. I like the dark finish, smooth trigger pull and balance. It performs marginally better in cold weather than any of my other pistols. I'm looking for another meat tenderizer front end...

WE KnightHawk Custom 1911

I love the look of this gun, but the fit and finish is not up to standards. Too much wobble!
